Last week two people were killed in a Pennsylvania workplace explosion. The explosion occurred at the Horsehead Corporation, a zinc plant in Beaver County about 28 miles north of Pittsburgh. One of the refinery columns used to make zinc oxide exploded killing two of the workers. The workers who were killed have been identified as 41 year old Corey Keller of West Virginia and 53 year old James Taylor of Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania. Two other employees were treated at area hospitals for injuries sustained in the accident.
Horsehead Corporation is the nation’s largest zinc smelter. It employs about 600 people for its zinc metal and zinc oxide business.
The cause of this fatal Pennsylvania workplace accident remains under investigation and the zinc refinery remains closed pending the outcome of the investigation.
